November 2016 Update
"Serve one another in love." Galatians 5:13
Can you believe it’s almost 2017? November was packed full of fun and service at Iglesia Gran Comisión!
Iglesia Gran Comisión hosted our last two of twelve mission teams of 2016! We welcomed Kennebec Community Church from Maine for the first time! Their team was extra fun because it was full of youth! The teenagers were just the shot of energy our staff needed to finish out our mission team season strong!
The Kennebec team worked with children at both our Development Centers in Guayabo and Soyapango and even painted TWO new murals at Guayabo!
Our very last team was from Bay Area Community Church (BACC) in Maryland. The BACC team spent a morning in Guayabo painting one of the neighborhood schoolhouses. The fresh coat of paint is just what the building needed! After painting, the team did something we’ve NEVER done before - they visited a local nursing home to talk with the elderly! The missionaries got to hear stories from their lives, share the Gospel and ended the afternoon singing to the people! It was definitely a special day.
The missionaries spent the rest of their time between the two Centers sharing the love of Jesus with each child.
Mission Team Season 2016 might be over, but we are already gearing up for Mission Team Season 2017! We already have THIRTEEN teams scheduled! Our teams are very important to our Iglesia Gran Comisión because they help to support us in so many areas - the church itself, the Development Centers and our Total Health Clinics! Will we be seeing you next year? We hope so!
We are SO VERY CLOSE to the completion of the construction of our new Dental Clinic in Guayabo! Everything will be done on December 12th! A week from today! Thank you for all your prayers and support!
The children at both of our Development Centers are now on break until January. In Salvadoran schools, the year ends around the end of October and begins in January. Thanks to our amazing staff in Guayabo and Soyapango, 99% of the children will be moving up a grade next month! Next week, we will be having Christmas parties for the children! Don’t forget to check our Instagram and Facebook pages to see photos of the fun and festivities!
To prepare for Christmas and the upcoming school year, the “Big Kids” at Guayabo created and sold handmade greeting cards! Their efforts paid off and they made over $50 to purchase supplies for next year!
November’s Women’s Meeting in San Salvador was especially exciting because we welcomed the women from our Soyapango campus AND the message was delivered by Lulu Hickey, one of our BACC missionaries! Lulu taught the women the ACTS method of praying:
And to help us remember, BACC gave each woman a bracelet with the acronym and a Bible verse on it! The worship team came to lead us in singing and the afternoon ended just as every women’s meeting does - with a snack!
For our Youth Group as they head to Honduras for Infinito, Great Commission Latin America’s annual youth conference on December 26th!
For the children in Guayabo and Soyapango while they are on break from school. Please pray for their health and safety while they are away from the Centers.
For our pastors, Victor, Carlos, and Nelson, as they work to lead people to Jesus
For boldness as our church members invite people to church!
Roberto Salzar, a member of our Young Adult Bible Study, got baptized at the beach on November 26th!
The Youth Group is almost fully funded for Infinito! We only have about $100 left to raise!
After a few very scary days in the hospital, one of our church members, Cesar Valencia, was diagnosed with an ulcer in his intestine. He is now out of the hospital and taking measures to avoid any more ulcers! Hallelujah!
